HY2CAPS (HAZITEK)

Team Group Engineering participates in the project HY2CAPS (Nº ZL-2025/00621) HAZITEK program, selected by the Basque Government, SPRI and FEDER; with a total annual Budget of € 410.000 (€ 155.000 for TEAM GROUP Engineering)

The opportunity for HY2CAPS to develop a form of underground storage of hydrogen in capsules arises from the problematic medium to large-scale hydrogen storage needs that are beginning to manifest themselves in the industrial environment, due to the increasing demand for green hydrogen as an energy carrier, in addition to its current use as a raw material for industrial processes.

The HY2CAPS project pursues these main technical and scientific objectives:

• Capsule design for underground H2 storage
• Use of the soil as a confining element that helps the metal container to improve its storage performance.
• Capsule-to-ground element design
• Study and evaluation of hydrogen storage in buried metallic capsules, considering the gas pressure and the characteristics of the capsules and the ground.
• Establish a system of standardisation of the capsule implantation process.
